The AML/CTF annual compliance report for accountants

Every reporting entity lodges a compliance report with AUSTRAC each year covering the previous calendar year. It is a questionnaire, not an audit, but it asks for numbers you will only have if you kept records.

When

The report covers 1 January to 31 December and is lodged in the first quarter of the following year, through AUSTRAC Online. AUSTRAC emails enrolled entities when the form opens.

What it asks

  • Whether you have an AML/CTF program, when it was last reviewed and by whom.
  • Your compliance officer.
  • How you carry out customer due diligence and how many clients you onboarded.
  • Reports lodged: suspicious matters and threshold transactions.
  • Staff training carried out.
  • Any breaches you identified and what you did about them.

Be ready in ten minutes

Keep a running record: clients onboarded and their risk ratings, reviews completed, reports lodged, training sessions with names and dates, and program versions with dates. At year end, pull the summary, answer the form, keep a copy.

Questions people ask

Is the first report due for 2026?
Reporting entities that became subject to the regime on 1 July 2026 should expect to report on the second half of 2026 in early 2027. Check AUSTRAC's notice for the exact period and due date.
